Looking at nature as the inspiration, From The Source was an idea based on taking something unnatural and placing it in nature and being inspired by the surroundings to influence the process of dress making and docunmenting the journey.
I knew independent Fashion Designer and Maker, Alexandra King, would be a perfect fit for the project. Having seen and been inspired by Alex’s love for vintage fashion and her passion for photography, I had to share this journey with her.
The project had different elements, I knew it was going to be photography based but I also wanted a more cinematic approach. This is where I introduce Tom Roche, Photographer, Filmmaker and Graphic Designer, added bonus that I just so happened to marry him. He was the one who brought my vision to life.
We pitched the idea, thankfully it came at the perfect time for Alexandra. From here, we story boarded and headed out to the first location. In total there were three locations, Cheddar, Alex’s Studio/Garden and Brean. Each location presents a different backdrop and new source of inspiration. At each location Alex introduced a new fabric, draping and pinning as the wind danced with the mannequin.
I, Photographed as Tom, Filmed. Both in awe of Alexandra at work, From The Source became the reality I had been dreaming about.
From The Source, has never been about the end or the outcome. Its sole purpose was about documenting the journey, being influenced by what was in front of us. So while you are here, seeing this in a past tense, another photography project has come and gone; its core value and one we often return to is that there is no end to nature.
There is no end to creativity; because we will always draw from the source, to inspire us to move forward.
